Sing Your Heart Out for Gendered Intelligence
Could you raise money for GI’s camping trip through running a small event?
GI volunteer Laura did just that. She recently threw a karaoke party with her friends and raised £210! We asked her a few questions about what was involved.
Laura, how are you involved with Gendered Intelligence?
I’ve been volunteering for GI for about a year and a half and it’s been great getting involved with such a dynamic organisation. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting some of the young people GI supports so I wanted to do something which would raise some funds towards their camping trip this summer.
How did you raise money?
Last Christmas I was given a karaoke kit (complete with hot pink microphones!) so I decided to put it to use and host a karaoke party for my friends in exchange for a donation towards the camping trip. I made a couple of bowls of punch, put out some snacks and told people in advance the cause we were raising money for (and to remind them to bring cash on the night!)
Do you have any tips for running a fundraising event?
We had a great time, and thanks to the generosity of my friends, made £210. I really recommend putting on an event which is something you’d find fun anyway – and then asking people to donate an amount they’d spend on having a night out. Set up a Facebook group in advance (where you can give a bit more information on what GI does) and even if people only have a small amount to give you’ll still have fun and raise awareness!
You can do it too!
Grab a few friends and pay a couple of pounds each to do something you enjoy. Drag bingo? A cake sale? A football match? Why not!

You can donate whatever you make via ourGoFundMe page or via PayPal.
Last month GI launched a GoFundMe campaign to fund our camping trip in August. We have to raise £5,000 by the end of July. Please share!
Call for art submissions for Gendered Intelligence Art Auction - please share widely!
For the 2nd year running, Gendered Intelligence is hosting an art auction to raise money for our work improving the lives of young trans people
Our art auction has proved to be a very successful event, last year raising £1500 for Gendered Intelligence trans youth.
Hopefully, with your support, we can make the second year into an even more fantastic fundraising effort that will go towards furthering the GI cause!
If you’ve wanted to contribute to Gendered Intelligence but haven’t had the funds or the time to donate, consider donating your artwork for our Art Auction!
We’re looking for anything artists are willing to submit - whether they be canvas paintings, photographic prints, sculptures, jewellery, etc. We encourage a diverse range of artwork - whether you’re a professional artist or you enjoy art as a casual hobby, we want your submissions!
The art auction will run alongside our annual holiday party on 15th December to celebrate all the work we’ve done in 2012.
We’re definitely interested in submissions from trans and gender variant artists, but if you’re an ally who’d like to submit to show your support, please do get in touch with us.
Please contact us to get involved! Or, if you’re not an artist, please repost this widely to your artistic friends and communities!
